DURHAM, N.H. – The UMaine women's indoor track and field team opened up the 2017-18 season on Saturday, falling to UNH 105-73 at Paul Sweet Oval. The Black Bears combined to win six events on the day.
Cassidy Hill started the event by winning the 55 meter dash (7.40), while
Ariel Clachar finished third in the event to give Maine seven of the 11 points in the event. In the 400-meter run, Lauren Manguson took first (59.00), while Catherine Christiansen finished fourth.
Clachar followed up her dash performance by taking first in the long jump (5.46 meters). Maine swept the top two positions in the triple jump, with Anna Schumann (10.60 meters) and Lucia Guarnieri (10.47 meters) taking the top two spots. The Black Bears also won the weight throw, with Alice Barnsdale (16.41 meters) and
Rachel Bergeron (16.01 meters) placed first and second respectively in the weight throw.
Other top finishers include
Kaitlin Saulter placing second in the mile run with a time of 5:12.36. Tiffany Tanner took third in the 800-meter run (2:26.74), while Taylor Lenetine vaulted 3.20 meters, good enough for third place.
Both the men's and women's teams will travel back to New Hampshire next weekend, as Maine will compete against Datrmouth and New Hampshire in Hanover. Friday's multis event will start at 3:00 p.m., while Saturday's competition commences at noon.
