BOSTON – After winning the 1 mile run at Dartmouth this past weekend, freshman John Hassett has been named the America East Track Performer of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.
 
Competing against runners from Dartmouth, New Hampshire, and Vermont, Hassett crossed the finish line first with a time of 4:20.76 in his second-ever collegiate track meet. The Castine, Maine native was also a competed in the 4x800 relay, running as the anchor, with Maine finishing with a time of 8:17.14 for second place.
 
The award marks Hassett's first of his career, and Maine's first weekly award this season.

Hassett and the rest of Black Bears are off from competition for the rest of 2017. Maine returns to action on Jan. 13, in Hanover, N.H. against meet host Dartmouth, along with Brown and Vermont.
