Black Bears Face-off Against Providence and UConn

ORONO, Maine – Coming into five-straight Hockey East Conference games in their schedule, the Black Bears kicked off the week with an action packed second period victory over Northeastern on Tuesday night. With the 4-2 win, Maine improved their overall record to 7-5-0 while earning their second WHEA win of the season.

Coming off of a light week with just one game on the road, the Friars will be playing their lone game of the week at the Alfond Arena. Their previous game at Boston College was a high-scoring one, busy with action from the first minutes the two teams stepped onto the ice, until the final buzzer. Both teams saw multiple scoring opportunities as BC defeated Providence, 7-4.
Despite establishing an early 1-0 lead off a goal by freshman Madison Sansone, Boston College crashed the Friar's net as junior Madison Myers registered 25 saves. She's started and played every game in net for Providence this season. Nine different players earned points by the end of the match.
Leading the team in points with six goals and nine assists for a total of 15 points, Christina Putigna potted one of the Friar's goals in their past matchup as she holds onto fourth place in Hockey East for scoring.

Senior Catherine Tufts potted two goals to help capture the win over Northeastern on Tuesday. She is also approaching an exciting feat this week, with her next game being her 100th game played as a Black Bear over the past four years. Throughout her years, Tufts has achieved 28 points between 17 goals and 11 assists.
Two sophomores displaying their offensive strengths each dished out a pair of assists against Northeastern, Tereza Vanisova and Vendula Pribylova. Vanisova is an unstoppable force on the attack this season, already registering 17 points and maintaining a steady lead in the assists category with 13. Freshman Michelle Weis and junior Alyson Matteau also tossed to help ensure the win.
Sophomore Carly Jackson held the Huskies scoreless throughout the first and final period, while stopping a total of 20 shots. She now holds a 5-4-0 record this year, earning both the Hockey East wins for Maine in net.

Sophomore goaltender Morgan Fisher enters into the matchup with Maine on a high note after being awarded Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. She led the Huskies to a shutout tie last Saturday with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), notching 30 saves.
In UConn's first game in their weekend series last week, the Huskies opened up scoring with four unanswered goals before RPI made a last-minute attempt to catch up on a power play, falling to UConn 4-1. Eight players saw success on the attack grabbing a point apiece while senior Justine Fredette was the lone player to record a goal and assist.
Currently tied for the lead in points for the Huskies are underclassmen, sophomore Briana Colangelo and freshman Natalie Snodgrass with nine points split between four goals and five assists.
UConn will be at Boston University on Friday before taking a day to travel up to Maine for the match on Sunday.
