Jackson Blanks Northeastern with 28-Save Victory

Brooke Stacey Put Away Both Goals

BOSTON, Mass. – Leading the Black Bears to their first shutout of the season was Brooke Stacey knocking in a pair of goals and Carly Jackson shutting down 28 shots as Maine redeemed their previous match with a 2-0 victory over Northeastern on Sunday. The Black Bears (9-6-1, 4-3-1) came out on top in two of three meetings this season with the Huskies (7-7-2, 5-4-1).

Jackson earned her second career shutout in net with the assistance of her teammates jumping in for 19 blocks, the second most in a game this season for Maine. Protecting her home net, Aerin Frankel also made a respectable 26 saves as both teams saw their fair share of shorthanded opportunities.

Maine struck first with 13:55 on the clock in the first period, as the play commenced with Brittany Colton dumping a pass back to Michelle Weis who took a deep shot from the point. Northeastern goaltender Frankel shut down the shot, but the puck broke loose into traffic on the rebound in front of the crease. Stacey muscled her way into the commotion to give the puck an extra nudge over the line to set the Black Bears ahead, 1-0.

Stacey was in the right place at the right time once again that game, connecting a one-timer just inside the post, off of a sneaky pass through Northeastern defenders from Tereza Vanisova. Maggie Blair earned her first NCAA assist, passing the puck from behind the net to Vanisova to set up their second goal of the game, 6:28 into the second stanza.

After giving up the first nine face-off wins to the Huskies in the opening frame, the Black Bears impressively came back to split the face-offs evenly with 23 wins each by the end of the game.

Taking a brief hiatus from Hockey East action, the Maine women's ice hockey team will have a busy Thanksgiving break with a pair of games at Union College on Friday and Saturday. Puck will drop at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24.
