Bangor, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team (3-1) eclipsed the century mark for the first-time since a 110-72 win against Drexel in 1997 as all 13 Black Bears scored as part of a 100-40 victory over UMaine Fort Kent (0-3) on Thursday evening at the Cross Insurance Center.
Four Black Bears finished in double-figures, led by Blanca Millan's 19 points (9-of-10) in just 11-minutes of action. Kelly Fogarty tallied 16 points, on a 4-for-10 night from 3-point range, off the bench while Maeve Carroll added 14 points and a team-high seven boards.
Tanesha Sutton joined the double-figure action with 11 points on a perfect 5-for-5 performance from the field.
Maine's transition offense was impressive as the Black Bears outscored UMFK 24-0 in fast break points. The Black Bears turned 25 Bengal turnovers into 37 points and were dominant inside, holding a 64-14 advantage in the paint.
The Black Bears reached the 100 point mark for just the 21st time in the history of the program.
It was an impressive shooting night for the Black Bears who shot 72.2% (13-18) in the third quarter on their way to an overall 58.1-percent showing from the floor. Individually, Millan has been impressive in the early going from the floor, checking in with a 63.6 percent mark from the floor over the first four games.
Maine was also in full control on the boards where it held a 47-22 advantage.
The Black Bears scored the first 15 points of the contest, running out to a 15-0 lead over the opening four minutes of action.
Maine's lead stretched to 20 early in the second quarter when a pair of buckets from Millan sandwiched a jumper by
Parise Rossignol.
The Millan buckets began what ended up being a 24-7 run. The sprint allowed the Black Bears to take their largest lead of the first half, 50-17, late in the second quarter, before entering the break leading 50-20.
Maine forced 15 turnovers in the first half while outscoring the Bengals 40-6 in the paint over the opening 20-minutes.
There was no slowing down the offense in the second half as Maine outscored UMFK 32-11 in the third quarter.
A layup by Dor Saar early in the period put Maine up by 40. The bucket started a 12-2 Black Bear run which extended the lead to 50, 74-24, with 4:09 left in the third.
Maine entered the final quarter with a commanding 82-31 advantage. A three-pointer from Fogarty was followed by a pair of triples by Sierra Tapley, the sophomore's first collegiate points, as the lead swelled to 97-35.
Three-straight points from Carroll push Maine to the century mark as it would glide the rest of the way for a 100-40 victory.
The Black Bears are back in action on Nov. 24 when they travel to meet Miami as part of the Hurricanes' Thanksgiving tournament. Following the matchup with Miami, the Black Bears will take on Kennesaw State on Sunday, Nov. 26.
