Orono, Maine --
Josh Mack and
Chris Ferguson have each earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Football weekly honors, as announced on the league's weekly conference call Monday morning. Mack was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week while Ferguson garnered the league's Rookie of the Week accolade. For Mack, it is his second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Mack, who also was named the College Sports Madness CAA Player of the Week, became just the second Black Bear since Carl Smith (1989) to rush for 200+ yards twice in a season when he racked up 248-yards and a touchdown on 30 carries in Maine's 51-27 win over Rhode Island. Mack, who averaged 8.3 yards per carry against the Rams, currently leads the nation with 154.4 rush yards per game and is second in the NCAA with 772 total rush yards. The sophomore from Rochester, N.Y. leads the CAA with 6.89 yards per carry and is second in the league with five rushing touchdowns.
Ferguson tossed for five touchdowns in the victory over Rhode Island, a feat that no Black Bear had accomplished since Chris Treister did so in 2009, also against Rhode Island. Ferguson hit
Jaleel Reed for three scores and also found
Earnest Edwards and
Jared Osumah for touchdowns, finishing his day 18-of-28 for 214-yards. Ferguson has now thrown three or more touchdowns in three of his first five career games.
The Black Bears continue CAA action on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they travel to take on UAlbany. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
