BANGOR, Maine - The Black Bears and Seawolves battled through a close game in the Cross Insurance Center which ended with a final score of 74-54, after Stony Brook's late 23-0 run in the second half to put the game away.
Vincent Eze tallied his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 assists in the contest; he also had an assist, and shot 5-11 from the floor.
Wes Myers led all Maine scorers with 18 points on 8-17 shooting, and five assists.
The game saw 13 lead changes and the score was tied seven times. Both teams had leads in the first half, the Black Bears led by as much as much as five points, the Seawolves as much as three. The half would end with Maine leading for the final five minutes of the half, with Stony Brook tying the score twice in those five minutes; Maine ended the first half with a 32-28 lead over Stony Brook.
The second half started off with a bang for Maine as the first shot of the half was
Marko Pirovic hitting a three point shot, assisted by
Wes Myers, putting Maine up by six points, 34-28. Stony Brook came back to tie and eventually take small leads in the first 10 minutes of the half, starting a scoring run that would eventually hit 23-0 by 5:32 left. Stony Brook's best-in-conference defense held Maine from hitting a field goal for almost 10 minutes in the second half. With about 4 minutes left in the game both teams went back to trading baskets, eventually ending with a 20-point victory for Stony Brook, who remains undefeated in conference.
The Black Bears, now 1-3 in conference, will travel to Hartford to face the Hawks on Monday, January 16 at 1pm.
