Frozen Fenway Feature

Fenway Park in the month of January has traditionally been a quiet time for America's most beloved ballpark, with harsh cold temperatures and short nights, the summer nights filled of screaming fans seem like a distant memory.

Not for Maine hockey fans.

Forty thousand fans will pack the century old park to watch the Black Bears take on UConn January 14, in their third appearance at Fenway.

Maine has an undefeated record playing in Frozen Fenway, with their first appearance in 2012 against rival New Hampshire resulting in a 5-4 overtime thriller. Their last appearance was in 2014, under head coach Red Gendron, as they defeated Boston University 7-3.

It may be the third time for Maine playing at Frozen Fenway but that doesn't mean it is any less special.

Senior captain, Cam Brown a native of nearby Natick, Massachusetts, appeared in the 2014 game against Boston University.

"Playing at Fenway my freshman year is one of my favorite hockey experiences of my career," Brown said. "Maybe I'm a bit spoiled being from Massachusetts but playing the game you love on a field where you have watched many of your idols play is a dream come true. Having friends and family and of course, the die hard Maine fans come and support us gets me so fired up to play at Fenway again this year."

UConn will be making their first appearance at Fenway Park, recently joining the conference in 2013. Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna states that it is an once-in-a-lifetime event, that all Hockey East school can now share.

"Hockey East and our schools could not be more excited to take the ice once again at Fenway Park," said Bertagna. "Once Frozen 2017 is complete all twelve Hockey East schools will have played an outdoor game at Fenway Park, creating once-in- a-lifetime memories for the players, students, alumni and fans."
