Baseball Takes Rubber Game of the Series, 7-5 Against UMBC Sunday

ORONO, Maine -- Maine Baseball rallied in the seventh inning to score five runs and earn their second conference win of the season against UMBC 7-5, Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond.
Jeremy Pena led all Maine hitters on the day, going three-for-four with a triple and drove in two RBI's.
Maine improves their record to 10-23 overall and 2-6 in America East, while UMBC falls to 16-16 and 6-5 in conference play.
Chris Murphy started on the hill for the Black Bears and Cory Callahan started for UMBC.
The Black Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Kevin Stypulkowski hit a ground ball to first which resulted in an error and scoring Jeremy Pena.
In the top of the third, UMBC's Anthony Gatto singled to right field scoring one run and tying the game at 1-1.
The Retreivers added another run in the top of the fourth after a bases loaded walk taking the lead, 2-1. Maine was able to get out of the jam as UMBC left three runners on base.
Murphy finished the day, appearing in four innings and striking out seven. Nick Silva came in relief for the Black Bears.
Kevin Lachance homered down the left field line in the top of the sixth adding to UMBC's total, 3-1.
Maine responded in the bottom of the seventh with five runs on four hits. Jeremy Pena singled to center field, scoring Caleb Kerbs and cutting into UMBC's lead, 3-2. Kevin Stypulkowski then singled through the left side of the infield driving in one and tying the game at 3-3. Colin Ridley followed and tripled down the right field line driving in two runs and giving the Black Bears a 5-3 advantage. Brenden Geary then singled through the right side scoring one and increasing Maine's lead, 6-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jeremy Pena singled to center field scoring on run and giving Maine a four run lead, 7-3.
UMBC rallied in the top of the nineth scoring two runs and unable to complete the comeback. Jamie Switalski hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring one and bringing the game to 7-4. The Retreivers added one more after a Andrew Casali single scored one, 7-5.
Nick Silva earned his second career win (2-1), after appearing in five innings of work, striking out three and allowing three runs. Jonny Dierks received the loss (3-2).
The Black Bears host University of Maine Presque Isle Tuesday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m. Kids under the age of 17 receive free admission and adult tickets are $6.
