Baseball Drops 9-4 Decision at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. -- The University of Maine baseball team dropped the second of a three-game series at Clemson by a score of 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Alex Cabrera had a big day out of the nine-hole for the Black Bears as the second baseman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Danny Casals and Brett Chappell each added a pair of hits.
The Tigers got out to a hot start, pushing across five runs in the bottom of the second, keyed on a two-RBI double from Adam Renwick.
Maine got a run back in the top of the third. Jeremy Pena's double down the left field line brought home Cabrera, cutting the lead to 5-1.
Clemson responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, stretching its lead out to 9-1 after three innings of play.
The Black Bears kept charging and were able to get two back in the top of the fifth. Cabrera dropped a single into center, bringing in Shane Bussey. Shortly after, Carera was caught stealing at second but Colin Ridley was able to sneak in from third with Maine's third run of the day.
Maine added another run in the sixth, bringing it within five. Kevin Stypulkowski sent a high flyball into deep right field. Clemson's right fielder fell down on the play, allowing the ball to drop in. Tyler Schwanz scored on the play.
The Black Bears would not get any closer the rest of the way, dropping the contest 9-4.
Maine and Clemson close out their weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
