Maine Baseball Drops The Third Game of Series Against Clemson

CLEMSON, South Carolina -- The University of Maine Baseball team dropped the third game of the series against Clemson Sunday afternoon 19-2.
With the loss Maine falls to 1-2 on the season while Clemson improves to 2-1 overall.
In the first inning Tyler Schwanz gave the Black Bears an early lead with the team's first home run of the year over the left field wall for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Clemson was able to score two runs on three hits and the Tigers took the lead 2-1.
Clemson scored again in the bottom of the fourth on a Chase Pinder three run home run to increase the Tiger lead, 5-1. Chris Okey was able to single through the left side of the infield for an RBI and a 6-1 Tiger advantage.
In the top of the fifth, Tyler Schwanz struck again for his second RBI of the day as he doubled down the left field line to score Danny Casals and trimmed the lead 6-2.
Clemson was able to score seven runs on seven hits in the bottom half of the innings and increase their lead, 13-2. Seth Beer had a grand slam to right center for the Tigers.
In the seventh, Clemson scored two more off of a Glenn Batson double and an Adam Renwick single for a 15-2 advantage.
The Tigers scored four more in the bottom of the eighth to increase their lead 19-2.
Jake Higginbotham received the win after pitching five innings, two earned runs and three strikeouts. Jeff Gelinas received the loss in four innings of work.
The Black Bears return to action next weekend as they travel to New Mexico State for a four game series starting on Feb. 26.
