Box Score DURHAM, NH – Maine field hockey defeats UNH, their third consecutive win over the Wildcats with a 3-2 victory in overtime over their America East rival Sunday afternoon. The Black Bears improve to 9-4 on the season and 2-1 in America East play this season, UNH falls to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Samantha Wagg and
Danielle Aviani each added a goal for the Black Bears on the day.
3:36 into the game, Aviani delivered the first Maine goal of the day, her fifth of the season as the Black Bears took a 1-0 lead.
Off of a Maine penalty corner,
Samantha Wagg drilled home the second Black Bear goal assisted by
Brianna Ricker and
Ella Mosky as the Black Bears increased their margin 2-0.
UNH was able to cut into Maine's lead just before the end of the first half, Ashley Mendonca gave the Wildcats their first score of the game bringing the score to 2-1.
UNH outshot Maine 14-5 in the first half and held the advantage on corners 10-1.
Emily Corbett stopped one shot in the first half.
Maine held a 2-1 win for the majority of the second half, with less than two minutes remaining the Wildcats tied the game from Jessica Schmidt her first goal of the season.
UNH held the advantage in shots for the second half as well 9-6 and again in penalty corners 8-2.
In overtime,
Casey Crowley knocked in the winning goal on the right wing to beat the charging goalie to give Maine the victory.
Emma Cochran earned the win and stopped four shots on the day.
Maine returns to action Friday as they take on Vermont October 14 at 12:00 p.m.
