Orono, Maine -- University of Maine freshman running back Josh Mack has been awarded the New England Football Writer's Association Gold Helmet award after posting a career-day in Maine's 35-31 victory over Bryant. The award is presented weekly to the top performer in all of New England's Division-I football programs as part of a luncheon held at Harvard University.
The award is sponsored by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation and given weekly to the top FBS/FCS and Division II/III players in New England.
It is the third honor this week for Mack after the freshman rushed for 151-yards and three touchdowns in the Black Bears' come from behind victory over Bryant. Mack, who was also named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week and the STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week, scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning touchdown on Oct .1.
Maine is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when it returns to CAA action at Delaware at 3:30 p.m.
