Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep of Binghamton

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine baseball seniors went out in style on Saturday, graduating in the morning and then completing a weekend sweep of Binghamton in the afternoon 9-0. Junior Kevin Stypulkowski (Lake Worth, Fla.) led the offense for the Black Bears with a pair of home runs.
Maine improves to 22-24 on the season with the win and 8-9 in America East play. Binghamton falls to 17-22-1 overall, 6-14 in conference action.
Maine struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Luke Morrill (South Thomaston, Maine) doubled to right center field and Kevin Stypulkowski (Lake Worth, Fla.) followed with a home run over the right field fence. For Stypulkowski, it was his first home run of the season.
Maine added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Stypulkowski belted his second home run of the game. Geary followed with a double and scored when Sam Balzano (Portland, Maine) grounded out.
Maine capped the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Scott Heath (Westbook, Maine) singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brett Chappell (Rock Falls, Ill.). Morrill was walked intentionally. Brian Doran (Ayr, Ontario) singled to center field driving home Heath. Stypulkowski was intentionally walked to load the bases. Brenden Geary (South Hadley, Mass.) was hit, forcing Morrill home from third base. Doran scored when Shane Bussey (Boynton Beach, Fla.) singled to right field. Geary and Bussey both scored when Steven Adam singled (Tecumseh, Ontario).
Jacob Gosselin-Deschesnes (Montreal, Quebec) went 8.2 innings on the mound and allowed just eight hits. He struck out three batters and improves to 3-2 on the season. Charlie Butler (Marlborough, Mass.) retired the final batter for the Black Bears.
Rob Hardy suffered the loss for Binghamton as he allowed four runs on nine hits. He falls to 3-4 on the season. Jake Wloczewski went three scoreless innings, while Dylan Stock allowed five runs on two hits. Nicholas Liegi pitched the final two thirds of an inning.
Maine returns to action on Tuesday, May 12 when it travels to Boston College. First pitch is set for 3 PM.
