Baseball Drops Tough Decision at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Maine baseball team dropped a tough 12-0 decision at Boston College on Tuesday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Maine falls to 22-25 on the season, while Boston College improves to 26-25 overall.
Boston College struck first with a home run by Blake Butera in the bottom of the first inning. The game remained 1-0 until the Eagles scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Butera had a big three run double in the inning. Nick Sciortino had a pair of RBI singles in the inning, while Michael Strem, Donovan Casey, Johnny Adams and Jake Palomaki all drove home runs in the inning with hits.
The Eagles added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, making it a 12-0 final.
Jake Marks (Sarnia, Ontario) got the start on the mound for Maine and went four innings. He allowed six runs on eight hits while striking out four. He falls to 2-5 on the season. Jeff Gelinas (Saco, Maine) allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on five hits in two thirds of an inning. Charlie Butler (Marlborough, Mass.) went 1.1 innings and allowed one unearned run. Connor Johnson (Taunton, Mass.) allowed one run on one hit in one inning. Clay Conaway (Georgetown, Del.) pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Eric Stone went six scoreless innings for the Eagles, striking out seven. He improves to 5-0 on the season. Carmen Giampetruzzi allowed one hit in two innings. Brian Rapp pitched the ninth inning for the Eagles.
Maine returns to action on Friday, May 15 when it travels to Albany for an America East series. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 PM.
