
Maine Cross Country Competes At UMass Invitational

AMHERST, Massachusetts – The University of Maine cross country teams continued their seasons on Saturday afternoon as both ran in the UMass Cross Country Invitational in Amherst, Massachusetts. The men's team came in third place while the women placed eighth in the team standings.
The Black Bears men's team excelled in its second meet of the year as the squad had two members finish in the top-10.
Alexander Moser topped all Maine runners as he finished the 6k with a time of 19:16.90 and a fifth-place finish. Teammate Jesse Orach finished in the top-10 spots as well as he placed eighth with a time of 19:22.00.
Aside from having its runners crack the top-10, Maine also had representation in the top-20 spots as three Black Bears cracked the next 10 places.
Leading that charge was Levi Frye who came in 13th with a time of 19:32.60 with Jarrod Lenfest coming in right behind him with a time of 19:35.60. Jacob Johns was next as he came in 17th with a time of 19:37.40.
Last week's top-finisher for Maine, Lucas Bourget completed the race with a time of 19:43.40, while Justin Tracy and Joshua Horne finished back-to-back with times of 19:49.40 and 19:49.70, respectively.
Thomas Salamone (20:10.20) and Derrek Schultz (20:10.40) also finished the race for Maine.
The men's team finished third overall with 57 points in the standings while America East rival Vermont took top honors with 37 points. Boston College finished second with 54. Maine defeated UMass Amherst (67) Amherst (156) and Sacred Heart (172).
On the women's side, Carolyn Stocker was once again Maine's fastest runner as she finished the 5k with a time of 18:34.00. Annabelle Wilson, who was second-fastest for the Black Bears in the America East Pre-Conference Meet last weekend, did so again, with a time of 18:57.10.
Naomi Holzhauer and Cassandra Howard finished back-to-back in the standings with times of 19:48.00 and 19:51.10, respectively.
Shannon O'Neil (19:57.50), Lauren Conner (20:05.10), Faith Shaw (20:26.90, Nina Davenport (20:33.00), Elanora Hubbell (20:38.50) and Joy Mackenzie (20:39.50) also competed for Maine.
As a team, the Black Bears women's squad finished in eighth with 223 points while Boston College bested the field with 27 points.
The Black Bears no prepare themselves for the New England Championships held in Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Oct. 11. That race is scheduled for noon.
