Maine Men's Cross Country Takes Seventh and Women Place Ninth at America East Championships

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine cross country teams hosted the 2014 America East Championships in Orono, Maine on Saturday morning, and the men's team took seventh place while the women took ninth, with the races beginning at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively. Binghamton took first in the men's race while New Hampshire placed first for the women.
Freshman Joshua Horne got a good start on his America East championship resume as he came in 31st for the Black Bears with a time of 25:53.89 and Lucas Bourget finished a few places behind him with a time of 26:02.73.
Also competing for Maine was Jarrod Lenfest (26:08.56), Jesse Orach (26:12.50), Thomas Salamone (26:15.66), Justin Tracy (26:53.92), and Jacob Johns (27:13.23).
Stony Brook's Eric Speakman the race's top finisher as he crossed the line at 24:41.23.
On the women's side, juniors Annabelle Wilson and Carolyn Stocker led the way for the Black Bears. Wilson was Maine's fastest entrant as she finished 31st overall with a time of 19:07.81 while Stocker finished 34th overall with a time of 19:12.19.
Cassandra Howard was the next Black Bear to cross the finish line as she finished 59th with a time of 20:04.26.
Shannon O'Neil finished with a time of 20:26.45 and Naomi Holzhauer was close behind with a time of 20:26.65.
Also competing for the women's side was Faith Shaw (20:51.23), Abigail Wessels (21:04.88), Amanda Shuman (21:24.14), Mackenzie Joy (21:26.63), and Hannah Stefl (22:12.81).
The Wildcat's Elinor Purrier was the fastest runner in the race as she clocked in at 17.19.42
The Black Bears now get ready for the Northeast regional qualifying event as they look to make it to the national race later in the month. The qualifying event is tabbed for Nov. 14 in the Bronx, N.Y.
