This season marks Trey Flesch's fourth season as an assistant coach with Maine women’s ice hockey.
During the 2020-21 season, Trey coached the Black Bears' goaltenders into some of the best in college hockey. Loryn Porter finished as a runner up for the Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year award. The North Bay, Ontario native was also named a second team hockey east all-star during the '20-21 hockey season (finishing behind Aerin Frankel who won the award). She also broke Carly Jackson's single season record for GAA (1.34) and save percentage (.954).
In 2019-2020, for the first time in program history, goalie and captain Jillian Flynn was named a Joe Tomasello unsung hero award finalist (New England born college hockey players). Carly Jackson was drafted third overall by Buffalo in the NWHL draft. Jackson set single season records for goals against average (1.9) and save percentage (.934). The duo of Porter and Jackson pitched a record six combined shutouts. Jackson left as the career leader in: games played (122), wins (45), save percentage (.923), goals against average (2.15), and shutouts (10). She also owns the record for games played (35) and wins (17) in a single season (2017-2018).
Trey Flesch, who was hired in the Summer of 2018, came to Orono after serving as a graduate assistant coach for the Lindenwood University men's hockey team. While at Lindenwood, he helped the ACHA D1 level school in all aspects including recruiting, practice planning, game day operations, along with travel accommodations.
Earning both his master's and bachelor's degree from Lindenwood, Flesch graduated with a bachelor's degree in educational studies with minors in coaching and social studies in 2016 and acquired a master's in K-12 autism and spectrum disorder in 2018. As a goaltender, Flesch, led the Lions to a national championship in 2016 and has helped Lindenwood to the postseason every season as a player and coach.
