Sam Lander

    Volunteer Goalie Coach
Sam Lander began his stint as the women's ice hockey volunteer goalie coach in 2022.

Before Maine, Sam has almost a decade of goaltending coaching experience working with youth goalies up through to the NHL level. He was a goalie development coach for IF Bjorkloven, where he helped oversee youth goalie development at the U18, U16, and U14 levels. He is a current Goalie Development Leader with USA Hockey. In the summers, Sam works at Own the Crease as a goalie coach for Ray Jean. He has worked at numerous other goalie camps, including Pro Ambitions and GoaliePro in Finland. 

While in undergrad, Sam spent a year with the University of Maine Men's Hockey team as a video assistant. He did his undergraduate internship with the University of Maine's strength and conditioning department, working with Men's and Women's Ice Hockey, Field Hockey, Baseball, and Football.

Sam graduated from the University of Maine in 2020 with a Bachelor's in Kinesiology and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance at the University of Maine, where he is assisting with research on NIL deals among Power-5 athletes. He is also pursuing a second Bachelor's in Communications.

Away from the rink, Sam runs his own permacultural landscaping company. Sam's father, Chris, was a member of the University of Maine Men's Golf Team in 1992 and served as Head Coach of the team from 1992 to 1997. In his free time, Sam enjoys golfing, gardening, and writing.
