Matt Marshall

Matt Marshall has been with the University of Maine Sports Performance staff since August 2016. In July of 2019 he was also hired on as the Director of Operations for Men's Basketball where he is responsible for managing all of the teams travel accommodations. Coach Marshall works directly with Men’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer for all of their performance needs. During his time here he has also worked with Women’s Basketball, Baseball, Throws, and Football. 

Coach Marshall came to UMaine from the University of Kansas where he assisted with Men’s Basketball, among other Olympic sports. Prior to his stint at Kansas, he worked for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs where he 
was the first sports performance coach designated by the school. During his time there he was responsible for the development of the Men’s Basketball and Women's Softball Programs. Marshall also had stints at Colorado College, Wake Forest University, and Front Range Weightlifting Club. 


Matt received his Masters in Sports Medicine from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, and a Bachelors in Exercise Science from Appalachian State University, both with a concentration in strength and conditioning. Coach Marshall holds certifications through the NSCA & USAW as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), as well as a Level I Sports Performance Coach.


Marshall has also competed in both powerlifting and weightlifting. In weightlifting, he achieved two state titles and was ranked as high as 16th nationally. In powerlifting, he currently holds 3 state records in the state of Maine. 

Marshall and his wife, Alex, reside in Bangor.
