In April of 2018, head coach Joe Harasymiak announced the addition of Diamond Weaver to the UMaine coaching staff. Weaver will serve as an assistant defensive backs coach, focusing on the cornerback position.
Â
Weaver joined the Black Bear staff with a wealth of coaching knowledge at several different points of focus during his five year coaching career. Weaver spent the 2017 season on staff with the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Football League (IFL). While with the Blizzard, Weaver spent parts of his one-year in Green Bay mentoring the defensive backs. Under his guidance, the Blizzard finished the season with the top-ranked pass defense in the IFL.
Â
Prior to his time in Green Bay, Weaver spent a year coaching the wide receivers at Pace University following a three-year stint at Rhode Island, also of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
Â
During his time in Rhode Island, Weaver mentored the cornerbacks in 2016 and two years of coaching the running back unit. In 2015, Weaver mentored sophomore Harold Cooper to CAA all-conference honors as both a running back and kick returner. Cooper finished the season ranked 10th in the nation with 157.9 all-purpose yards per game.
Â
One of Weaver's greatest professional development experiences came in the summer of 2016 when he spent time as an intern with the Pittsburgh Steelers, assisting during the organization's training camp and preseason as part of the National Football League's (NFL) Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship.
Â
Before joining the staff in Rhode Island, Weaver coached the defensive backs and kick returners at Rochester Community and Technical College, helping guide the team to a 10-2 mark and the Minnesota College Athletic Conference State Championship. His secondary unit intercepted five passes in the title game, helping the squad earn a spot in the Graphic Edge Bowl.
Â
As a player, Weaver began his collegiate career at Santa Rosa Junior College, earning all-conference marks as a defensive back while being honored as the school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Â
After his time at Santa Rosa, he transferred to Akron, earning his bachelor's degree in communications in 2011. Weaver went on to play professionally in the NFL, the Canadian Football League (CFL), the Arena Football League (AFL) and the IFL.
