Head Coach Nick Derba of Maine Baseball has announced the hiring of Ryan McClaran as the program’s new assistant coach after serving as the volunteer for the 2021 season.
McClaran made the move to Orono in the fall of 2020 following a season at El Paso Community College as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, where he primarily handled the team’s pitching staff. Prior to that, McClaran has made stops at Murray State College, and Missouri Baptist University where the Spartans took 4th place in the NAIA World Series. Before beginning his coaching career, McClaran served in the United States Army Infantry.
"(McClaran) is an excellent addition to the staff. He possesses a wide range of skills that will certainly complement the program,” Derba stated. “Aside from his ability to teach multiple positions, “Mack” is bringing a set of leadership skills from one of, if not the most, respected organizations in the world, the United States Army. He will be able to help relate to players at a different level because of his non-baseball experience, which will help the staff create a stronger learning environment for our team. "
On the diamond, McClaran has a litany of accomplishments including a two time Team USA selection, Two time Texas All-State Selection, Team Texas selection, Team Captain at Odessa College, and a trip to the NAIA College World Series with Missouri Baptist University.
