Cejay Suarez joins the Black Bears for his first season in 2024 after spending his previous seven years coaching baseball across multiple different levels.
From 2022 until he accepted his position in July of 2024 at the University of Maine, Suarez served as the Pitching Coach for IMG Academy in Florida, where he oversaw all aspects of the post graduate pitching staff. He created individual offseason workout plans to help enhance development, he managed game day strategies during the season and played a large roll in college placement for all athletes, both pitchers and non-pitchers, as his athletes pursued their futures in baseball.
In January of 2020 and until the beginning of his role with IMG Academy, Suarez served as the Director of Player development with Mayhem Nation Baseball. He oversaw all aspects of player development, implementing practice plans and implementing new technology to help better his athletes.
From 2018-2021, Suarez served as the Field Manager for the Sanford Mainers of the NECBL, where he worked directly with the General Manager to help identify/recruit players for their organization, helped with hiring staff, managed in game strategies and worked with athletes on development plans.
Suarez got his start in coaching in 2017 where he assisted with both the Plymouth Pilgirms of the NECBL and at Bridgton Academy. While at Bridgton Academy, he worker with Aaron Izaryk. Izaryk served as a former pitching coach for the Black Bears and was an All-American during his playing time as well as a "M" Club Dean Smith Award Winner at Maine.
Suarez is a 2017 graduate of St. Joseph's College in Maine, where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration with a focus in Sports Management.
Suarez will serve as the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator on Nick Derba's staff in the 2024 season.
