CAMBRIDGE, Mass – Freshman Kevin Little had a week in which he averaged 19 points and helped the Black Bears snap a three game losing streak and because of his efforts the conference has named his America East Rookie of the Week.
Little has been on quite a streak since conference play opened on Jan. 3 as he has been consistently the top point producer for the Black Bears. Since his 12-point performance against the Great Danes, Little has recorded double-figure points in seven of nine contests and is on a six-game double-digit scoring streak.
In that span Little is averaging 14.6 points per game and has reached 20+ points in three contests including his 21 point performance against Binghamton last Saturday afternoon.
Little started off last week with a 17-point effort against Vermont, one of the stingiest defenses in the league, to pace the Black Bear effort. Little then impressed the Cross Insurance Center crowd, pouring in 21 points including a late trey that helped seal the victory with 40 seconds remaining in the contest.
The Wyandanch, N.Y., native has raced up the Maine stats, as he is now leading the team with an 11.8 points per game mark and is currently second behind Tanner Leissiner in rookie scoring. Leissner is currently scoring at a 13.0 points per game clip, while Binghamton's Willie Rodriguez is third behind Little, scoring at a 10.9 points per game pace.
Maine's rookie sensation has made a name for himself from beyond the arc as well as he would be ranked fourth in 3-point percentage with a 40 percent success rate, and tied for second with 2.1 treys per game, but because he hasn't played in 75 percent of his teams games he's currently not listed in the America East stat rankings.
Little and the Black Bears look to build off its win against Binghamton as it heads to Stony Brook for a Valentines Day matchup against the Seawolves beginning at 2 p.m.
The University of Maine is also celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2015. In conjunction with this, the athletic department will celebrate 150 student-athletes achievements over the next year.
