ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine softball pitcher Alexis Bogdanovich(South Portland, Maine) has been named the America East Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Bogdanovich went 2-1 over the past week for the Black Bears, giving up just four runs in 23.1 innings for a slim 0.90 ERA. Bogdanovich finished the week with 33 strikeouts while surrendering 14 hits and just three walks.
The senior hurler picked up her first victory of the week in an 8-0 shutout victory over Yale in which she gave up just two hits while striking out seven. Bogdanovich tossed six innings in relief, recording seven more strikeouts along the way, against Central Michigan before striking out the only batter she faced against Boston University. Bogdanovich moved to 2-0 on the weekend with a career-high 16 strikeouts in another complete game shutout victory over Syracuse.
Bogdanovich is tied for the league lead in wins (6) while her 78 strikeouts in 73.0 innings is tops in the America East. Bogdanovich has given up just 14 earned runs on the year and leads the league with a 1.53 ERA while only walking six batters.
Maine begins America East action this weekend with a three-game set at UMBC.
The University of Maine is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2015. In conjunction with this, the athletic department will celebrate 150 student-athletes achievements over the next year.
