ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine senior softball pitcher Alexis Bogdanovich (South Portland, Maine) has been named the America East Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, Feb. 17.
Bogdanovich led the way in the circle to Maine's first win of the season as the Black Bears defeated Jacksonville State 3-1 in their season opener. In the win, Bogdanovich allowed just one run on six hits while walking none and striking out five. Bogdanovich had a strong showing in a 2-0 loss to James Madison, who entered the weekend receiving votes in the national top-25 poll. In the tough-luck loss, the senior hurler allowed just a pair of runs while again fanning five.
Bogdanovich finished the opening weekend at 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 10 strikeouts.
The Black Bears return to action on Feb. 27 when they start a two-week stretch of games in Florida beginning with a showdown with Middle Tennessee at 11:15 a.m.
