ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine has named Richard
Reichenbach women's ice hockey head coach for the 2014-2015 season.
His wife, Sara, who served as co-coach with him last year, will
serve as an assistant coach for the upcoming
season.
Reichenbach recently completed his fourth season with the
Black Bears, serving as an assistant coach and recruiting
coordinator the previous three years before serving as co-coach
last season.
The Black Bears finished fifth in Hockey East last season
and lost to Vermont in the Hockey East playoffs in triple overtime.
He coached Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minn.), who was named a
Hockey East Honorable Mention. The Black Bears were the least
penalized team in Hockey East last year. The Black Bears led
all Hockey East programs as 20 of their 26 student-athletes
were named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team. Katy Massey
(Waterville, Maine) and Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) were
named two of Hockey East's Top Three Scholar-Athlete and named to
the Hockey East Academic All-Star Team.
Reichenbach came to the University of Maine from Cortland
State where he was responsible for recruiting and organizing team
travel, practices and video breakdown. He also worked primarily
with the Cortland State defense.
Reichenbach, a native of Baldwinsville, New York, is a
2006 graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. He played
hockey and lacrosse for the continentals for four years and was
coached by legendary coach Phil Grady while playing hockey at
Hamilton. He captained the team his senior season. Following
graduation, he played a year of professional hockey with the
Richmond Renegades of the SPHL. Reichenbach worked as a hockey
specialist and Bluestreak Sports Training in Stamford Connecticut
where he trained numerous elite athletes who played in the NHL,
Olympics, Division 1 and 3 hockey. Reichenbach recently completed
his master's degree in sports management from Cortland
State.
