Meadows was named Offensive Player of the Week, Bernetti earns Defensive Player of the Week honors
BOSTON – University of Maine women's soccer players Isabella Meadows and Meghan Bernetti were recognized by America East on Monday, with Meadows earning Offensive Player of the Week honors and Bernetti being named Defensive Player of the Week.
Meadows helped lead the Black Bears to a 1-0-1 week on the road, scoring in each of Maine's two matches. The junior opened the scoring in Maine's 1-1 draw at Providence on Thursday, finding the back of the net with 37 seconds remaining in the first half. She then scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's 1-0 victory at Holy Cross, heading home a cross from Sandrine Brault less than two minutes into the contest.
Bernetti helped anchor a Maine backline that allowed just one goal across the two road games. The senior played all 180 minutes during the week, helping the Black Bears earn a 1-1 draw against Providence before securing a clean sheet at Holy Cross. Bernetti made a key block during the second half against the Crusaders as Maine preserved the 1-0 victory. The tie against the Friars was Maine's first result against a Big East school since 2007.
This is the first career America East weekly honor for both Meadows and Bernetti.
