Baseball Erased Early Deficit to Grab Sixth America East Victory of the Season

Friedman grabbed win in relief behind four no-hit frames

Little Falls, N.J. – The University of Maine baseball program erased a three-run deficit to pick up the series opening win at NJIT on Friday Night.

First Pitch – 6:45 PM – 5-3 Maine

Scoring Plays:
 Nic Pepe brought home the first run for Maine in the fifth inning on an RBI single to right field, scoring Chris Bear (1B).

Quinn Murphy brought home the second run of the inning of a sac fly to center field to score Brody Rasmussen (1B).

Bear (1B) tied the game up in the seventh inning as he scored on a passed ball.

Troy Carpenter delivered in the ninth inning for the Black Bears as he hit a go-ahead two-run home run to right field, scoring Murphy (1B) on the play. The home run was his conference-leading 10th of the season.

Pitching Breakdown:
Jason Krieger went four innings in the start, allowing three runs on seven hits and five walks.

Pierce Friedman (2-1) picked up the win in relief as he went four shutout innings, allowing no hits on three walks and three strikeouts.

Sebastian Holt (3) picked up the save as he retired all three batters he faced in the ninth inning, striking out two of them.

Next Time Out:
The Black Bears (10-23) continue their weekend series against NJIT on Saturday, April 18 for game two of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
