MACON, Ga. – The University of Maine softball closed out the Heart of Georgia Classic on Sunday morning, falling in a single game to Evansville at Sikes Field.

How it Happened

• After a scoreless first inning, Evansville pushed three runs across in the bottom of the second with back-to-back singles.
• The Black Bears pulled one run back in the third when Francesca Guerrera brought Kyli Hernandez around with a single through the left side.
• The Purple Aces pushed the lead to 5-1 in the home half of the fourth and added one more run in the bottom of the sixth.
• Anna Carlson doubled to lead off the top of the seventh and then two batters late came around on a Guerrera double … Evansville closed the game out from there for the 6-2 final.

Game Notes

• Hannah Hipwell started in the circle, throwing 1.0 innings while giving up two runs on two hits … Alysen Rieth threw 3.0 innings in relief while Ava Zettlemoyer tossed 2.0 innings.
• Kyli Hernandez was 1-for-2 with one double, one run scored and one walk.
• Francesca Guerrera was 2-for-4 with one double and two RBI while Anna Carlson was 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored.
