Rock Hill, S.C. – The University of Maine baseball program fell in the series opener at Winthrop on Friday afternoon.

Scoring Plays:
Maine got on the board in the sixth inning as
Albert De La Rosa hit a double to right center, scoring
Juju Stevens (2B).
Hunter St. Denis made it three-straight doubles for Maine as he brought home De La Rosa (2B) on a double down the left field line.
Troy Carpenter capped off the four-run inning for Maine with his fourth home run of the season, this one being a two-run shot to left field, scoring St. Denis (2B).
Pitching Breakdown:
Gianni Gambardella (0-3) got the start as he went five and 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, three walks and striking out five.
Pierce Friedman was first out of the bullpen as he went two and 2/3 innings in relief, allowing just one run on one hit, one walk and striking out one.

The Black Bears (2-8) remain in South Carolina as they take on Winthrop for the second game in the series on Saturday, Feb. 28. First Pitch is scheduled for 2 PM.
