High Point, N.C. – The University of Maine baseball team had their late inning rally come up short as they are defeated by High Point, 10-7.

Scoring Plays:
Troy Carpenter got the Black Bears on the board as he drove in a pair of runs on a single through the left side of the infield, scoring
Juju Stevens (E5) and
Albert De La Rosa (BB).
Quinn Murphy drove in the third run of the day for Maine on an RBI single to center field in the fourth inning, scoring
Nic Pepe (HBP).
Shane Andrus hit his first home run of the season in the eighth inning for Maine, a two-run shot to left field, scoring
Brody Rasmussen (BB).
Maine scored two more runs in the ninth inning, both on throwing errors as De La Rosa (HBP) scored on a play by the third basemen and
Christopher Mondesir (E5/SB) scored on a play by the catcher.
Pitching Breakdown:
Vaun Larisa got the start in his first appearance of the season for the Black Bears, where he went five and 1/3, allowing six runs on six hits, two walks and striking out six batters.
Owen Wheeler took over in the sixth inning where we only recorded one out, allowing one run on one hit and one walk.
Jack Donlin was called on in the sixth inning as he allowed one hit and struck out one in his 1/3 of an inning of work.
Pierce Friedman began the seventh inning on the mound as he went two innings, allowing two runs on four hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Notes:
- Maine ended the ninth frame with the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate.

The Black Bears head to Winthrop for a three-game series beginning on Friday, Feb. 27. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
