ORONO, Maine - The Maine women's ice hockey team battled to a 2-2 draw with Vermont on Friday at Alfond Arena. The Vermont Catamounts earned the extra point after winning the shootout.
Junior forward
Lila Shea put Maine on the board eight minutes into the game off a play from
Darragh Browne and
Lulu Rucinski. Browne's assist accounts for her first career point.
About 13 minutes into the second period, Vermont tied it up, and then scored a second goal soon after to take the lead. Vermont's second goal was on a powerplay opportunity.
Less than a minute after Vermont took the lead, Maine responded with a goal from
Isabelle Michaud to even things back up.
Mackenzie Podewell and
Jaidyn Britt picked up the assists.
The two teams were still tied after a five-minute overtime period. In the shootout,
Stephanie Jacob was the lone scorer for Maine as Vermont was able to score twice.
