Last Season Review -- The Black Bears concluded the 2025-26 season with a 8-24 record and with a two-point loss at #3 NJIT in the America East Playoffs in the quarterfinals.
All-Rookie Honors -- Ace Flagg made an impact in his first collegiate season for the Black Bears, earning a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team. Across 32 games, he averaged 6.7 PPG, 4.1 RPG and 1.3 SPG in 24.2 minutes per game. He scored a career-high 22 points against UAlbany on Feb. 26 to solidify his spot on the All-Rookie Team.
Defensive Impact -- The Black Bears concluded the 2025-26 season with the 42nd best defense in the country as they allowed just 68.4 PPG. It marks the fourth-straight season that the Black Bears have ranked inside the Top-100 in all of the NCAA in defense, having done so every season under Coach Markwood. The Black Bears had the sixth-best defense in the country in terms of defending the three-pointer, allowing just 29.6% to fall. Maine also ranked in the top-100 in steals per game (68th-7.8 per game) and turnovers forced (76th-13.0 per game).
New Faces -- Maine has added eight new student-athletes to the program during the off-season. Villiam Gracia Adsten (Drexel), DeAndre Williams (Holy Cross), Ayden Evans (Ohio), Oliver Faubert (Saint Mary's) and Wyatt Triestman (Eckerd College) were the transfers that joined the program while Wesley Waddles, Kaden Bedard and Hudson Franz are first-year players for the Black Bears.
Returning from Injury -- Maine is looking forward to the return of both Killian Gribben and Darius Lopes, who combined to only see three minutes of action last season after both suffering season-ending lower body injuries. Gribben was a key piece of the 2024-25 squad that won 20 games as he averaged 5.3 PPG and over one block a game. Lopes is set to make his collegiate debut on Monday after  having missed both of his first two seasons at Maine due to a lingering foot injury.
Series History -- This will be the 13th meeting all-time between these two programs and the first time since the 2016-17 season. Providence holds the all-time record at 12-1.
