ORONO, Maine - The Maine women's ice hockey team was shut out by the Merrimack Warriors on Friday at Alfond Arena, 2-0.

Maine started the first period having to kill off a five-minute penalty, and they did so successfully. After a scoreless first period, Merrimack found the back of the net late in the second period for a 1-0 lead.

The Black Bears outshot the Warriors 33 to 24, but Merrimack was able to hold off Maine until the final buzzer. Merrimack scored an empty-net goal in the final seconds of the game to make it 2-0. 

Kiia Lahtinen made 22 saves on 23 shots faced.

The two teams face off again on Saturday, Jan 24 at Alfond Arena. Puck drop is set for 5:00 PM. After the conclusion of the game, the 'Skate with the Bears' event will take place as fans will get a chance to meet and skate with players from the women's ice hockey team.

Also on Saturday, it is Student Appreciation Night presented by OHOP, where there will be free pizza for students.
 
• Skates will not be permitted inside Alfond Arena during the contest. Fans will have to leave their skates in their vehicles during the game and retrieve them after the game ends.
• Fans wishing to attend Skate with the Bears are not required to have a ticket to that day's game. HOWEVER, if you do not have a ticket to the game, you will not be allowed into Alfond Arena for the Skate with the Bears event until the conclusion of the game.
