Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Maine edged by #5 UConn, 4-3

ORONO, Maine - The Maine women's ice hockey team fell to #5 UConn, 4 to 3, on Saturday at Alfond Arena. 

How It Happened:
  • Maine took the early lead when rookie forward Ali Altiman scored her first career goal in the first period. Mackenzie Podewell earned an assist on the goal. Later in the period, UConn tallied two goals to push ahead of the Black Bears. 
  • Maine came out with energy in the second period as Gracie Hanson tied up the game with a powerplay goal assisted by Paige Fong and Lulu Rucinski.
  • Heading into the final period tied at two apiece, UConn's Ashley Allard put the Huskies back in the lead. It took Maine 22 seconds to respond and tie up the game. Rookie Isabelle Michaud scored her sixth of the season to tie the game up 3-3. Kendall Sudby and goaltender Kiia Lahtinen each tallied an assist on what would be Maine's final goal.
  • UConn scored the game-winning goal with 13 minutes left. 
  • Maine pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but struggled to rally up another goal.
Game Notes:
  • Kiia Lahtinen made 35 saves for Maine.
  • Eight players notched a point, including Kiia Lahtinen. The last time a goalie had a point in a game for Maine was Carly Jackson on Jan. 14, 2017 at Northeastern.
  • This was Maine's 12th game of the season versus a ranked opponent.
  • The Black Bears were 1-for-2 on the powerplay and was 100% on the penalty kill, killing off four penalties successfully. Maine went 7-for-7 on penalty killing this weekend, as they haven't allowed a powerplay goal in the last three games. 
  • Maine record moves to 8-13-2 (4-7-2 HE).
