ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team started the 2025-26 season with an exhibition game against New Hampshire on Saturday at the Whittemore Center. Maine was defeated by a score of 5-1.
Lila Shea put the Black Bears up 1-0 just seven minutes into the first period, scoring off a pass from
Raegan Wurm.Â
The Wildcats scored five unanswered goals, starting with one late in the first period. The next three goals came quickly in the first six minutes of the second period to give UNH a 4-1 lead.Â
The Wildcats were able to pop in a final goal in the third period on a power play opportunity.Â
Maine went 4-for-5 on the penalty kill and 0-for-2 on the power play.Â
Julia Bachetti played the first period in goal for Maine stopping nine of ten shots, while
Madisyn Ryan saw the second period.
Kiia Lahtinen wrapped up the game playing the third period where she made eight saves on nine shots. The team was outshot by UNH 25-24.

The Black Bears hit the road to play #10 Quinnipiac on September 26/27 in Handem, CT. Friday's game is set for 6:00 pm, and Saturday's is set for 3:00 pm.Â
