ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team fell to Rhode Island, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in the 2025 season opener at Mahaney Diamond.
 
Maine held the edge in the first half – out shooting Rhode Island 6-4 and earning a 3-1 lead in corner kicks – but it would be the Rams that struck first. Rhode Island took a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute and then added an insurance goal in the 75th for the 2-0 final.
 
NOTES

• The teams were tied in shots 11-11 and shots on goal 4-4.
• The Black Bears had eight corner kicks while the Rams had two.
• Grace Wilson finished with two saves for Maine.
• Abbey Thornton, Meghan Bernetti, Emma Nicholson and Julie Lossius each recorded two shots … Thornton, Nicholson and Bernetti landed strikes on target.
• Bernetti played the full 90 minutes for the Black Bears.
• Grace Johnson, Amelia Ames, Lea Schroder, Audrey Palmer and Teagan Atherley all made their collegiate debuts.
• The loss snapped Maine's America East record 27-game home game unbeaten streak.
