Erin Magnuson '20 named Director of Athletic Development

Magnuson will provide the overall strategy, leadership and direction for the Alfond Fund, with a focus on growing the annual giving efforts.

ORONO, Maine – University of Maine Athletics announced on Friday the hiring of Erin Magnuson '20 as the Director of Athletic Development.

Magnuson, who was a four-year member of the UMaine track and field and cross country teams, arrives back in Orono after most recently serving as an admissions specialist at Gonzaga University. Magnuson also earned her master's in sports and athletic administration while at Gonzaga.

"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Erin to our team," said Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and Capital Planning Seth Woodcock. "As a proud UMaine alumnus and former Black Bear student-athlete, Erin knows firsthand the impact our work has on our university, state, local community and the young men and women we are privileged to support. With our master facilities plan in full gear and fundraising at an all-time high we look forward to Erin's leadership as we continue to grow the Alfond Fund and provide a great experience for our student-athletes. We know her energy, skills and passion will be a significant asset as we continue our push to be one of the top athletic programs in New England." 

In her role as Director of Athletic Development, Magnuson will provide the overall strategy, leadership and direction for the Alfond Fund, with a focus on growing the annual giving efforts.

"I am thrilled to be back in Orono," said Magnuson. "Throughout my time at UMaine, I saw and experienced firsthand the impact that the Alfond Fund has on the athletic department.  I am honored to represent the University, work closely with Seth Woodcock, and I am excited to drive development in order to better the next generation of student athletes."

Magnuson started at Gonzaga in 2020 and while in school, she worked as a graduation assistant in the kinesiology and sports management department. Additionally, from 2022-24, Magnuson was a brand manager as well as a content specialist at Spokane Sports.

The Ellington, Conn. native holds a bachelor's degree from Maine in English and a master's degree from Gonzaga in sports and athletic administration.
