Orono, ME – The University of Maine baseball team took down UMBC on Saturday afternoon.
Black Bear Scoring Breakdown:
Maine got on the board first as
Myles Sargent picked up an RBI single, scoring
Payton Whitehead (1B).
Drew Reynolds made it 2-0 Black Bears in the third inning as he hit an RBI single to left, scoring
Dean O'Neill (2B).
The Black Bears plated five runs in the fourth inning, starting off with an RBI single from Sargent to plate
Evan Menzel (1B).
Damon Gaither supplied the biggest swing of the frame as he hit a three-run home run to left field, scoring
Aidan Bardi (1B) and Sargent (1B). The home run was his second of the season.
Brody Rasmussen capped off the scoring with a solo home run to left field, his sixth of the season and second of the weekend.
Gaither made it a multi-home run game as he launched his second of the game to left field in the seventh inning. The two-run shot was his third of the season and brought home
Quinn Murphy (2B).
Black Bear Pitchers:
Caleb Leys (4-1) extended his streak to five-straight games allowing 1 or fewer earned runs as he went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, 3 walks and striking out 9.
Sebastian Holt pitched the final two frames of the contest as he allowed one hit and struck out 2.
UMBC Recap:
