
Maine Athletics mourns the passing of Stuart 'Stu' Haskell

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine athletics department was saddened to learn of the passing of longtime administrator, Stuart Haskell (1933-2025).
Haskell began his career in athletic administration as the University of Maine's sports information director in 1957. During his 30-plus year career, Haskell served as the athletic department business manager, assistant athletic director and eventually as the director of athletics from 1982-87. Haskell moved on to the North Atlantic Conference and was Commissioner of the NAC, which eventually became the America East Conference, until 1997. Haskell also served as Hockey East Commissioner.
In 2007 after years of extensive research, Haskell published The Maine Book, an encyclopedia of names and facts about Maine athletics. Haskell was inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.
