ORONO, Maine -- Maine Athletics, University Credit Union, Marden's Surplus & Salvage, Cianbro, and UMaine Golden Key all thank Black Bear Nation for showing up in a big way to support several charitable drives over the past month. Together, our community came together in a record-setting year of support to provide locals with food and clothing support this Holiday season.
The following is a summary of all of the items collected during our Holiday Drives:
University Credit Union & Holden Police 25 Days of Kindness Food Drive:
- 29 boxes and 16 bags of food collected and distributed
- Collection took place at Nov. 22 (women's ice hockey) and Dec. 6 (men's ice hockey) games
Marden's Surplus & Salvage Sock Drive:
- 289 pairs of socks collected
- Collection took place at Dec. 1 (women's basketball) game
UMaine Golden Key Warmth Drive
- 498 items of clothing and an additional 260 items from monetary donations
- Collection took place at Nov. 15 (men's ice hockey), Nov. 21 (women's ice hockey), and Dec. 7 (women's basketball) games
Teddy Bear Toss, presented by Cianbro
- 725 stuffed animals collected
- Collection took place at Dec. 13 (men's ice hockey) game
The Black Bears have one more community charitable drive scheduled as a second Marden's Surplus & Salvage sock drive will take place during Jan. 24 men's basketball game.
