Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Stevenson nets pair of goals, Maine downs Boston University, 3-1

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey (3-6-1, 1-1-1 HE) team defeated Boston University (1-8-0, 1-3-0 HE) on Friday at Alfond Arena, 2 to 1, for the team's first conference win of the season. 

Senior Ava Stevenson netted two goals in the third period for the Black Bears to seal the win. Rookie Isabelle Michaud scored the first goal for Maine just 27 seconds into the game. 

Michaud's goal was unassisted as the Black Bears held the one goal lead through the first period. Boston University was able to tie the game up in the second period with a short-handed goal. 

Maine took charge of the game in the third frame with Ava Stevenson scoring two goals. Mackenzie Podewell assisted Stevenson's even-strength goal on a two-on-one play. Rookies Isabelle Michaud and Lulu Rucinski assisted Stevenson's powerplay goal, the team's first of the season. 

Game Notes:
  • Kiia Lahtinen made 21 saves (.955 %) on 22 shots faced.
  • Maine picked up their third win of the season, the first of Hockey East conference play.
  • Maine was 5-for-5 on the penalty kill and 1-for-4 on the powerplay.
  • Isabelle Michaud and Ava Stevenson both had their second two-point games of the season.
  • Michaud continues to lead the Black Bears in points (3g, 4a).
