PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island - The Maine Black Bears opened Hockey East play with an overtime loss, 3-2, to Providence College on Friday at Schneider Arena.
Providence got on the board early in the first period, but Maine responded quickly after when
Frederikke Foss tied it up.
Ali Altiman and
Danielle Brunette earned assists on Foss' first of the season. The second period started similarly with Providence scoring in the first 30 seconds, but Maine responded yet again just 27 seconds later.
Lily Fetch scored her second of the year with
Ava Stevenson and
Isabelle Michaud tallying assists.
After a scoreless third period, the game went into an overtime period where Providence scored to win, 3-2, with 37 seconds left on the clock.
Game Notes:
Kiia Lahtinen made 30 saves on 33 shots faced.
Providence outshot Maine 33 to 22.
Maine killed off their lone penalty successfully and went 0-for-1 on the powerplay.
Maine earned one conference point for pushing the game into overtime.
