ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team shut out the Saint Anselm Hawks in their opener on Friday at Alfond Arena by a final score of 3-0.
Goaltender
Kiia Lahtinen backstopped the Black Bears making 22 saves as she recorded her third career shutout.
The Black Bears notched a goal per period to maintain a steady lead.
Stephanie Jacob,
Paige Fong and
Isabelle Michaud were the goal scorers for Maine.
Mackenzie Podewell was the playmaker on Jacob's goal, her first career assist.
Paige Fong scored her first collegiate goal in the second period, with
Ava Stevenson and
Isabelle Michaud earning assists. Michaud scored the team's final goal in the third period with Stevenson earning her second assist of the day, as well as
Lulu Rucinski picking up her first career point.
The Black Bears outshot the Hawks 54 to 22, with
Isabelle Michaud leading the way for Maine with nine.
The team was 0-for-2 on the powerplay, while the penalty kill went 2-for-2 as they continue to check in at 100%.
