Orono, Maine – The University of Maine baseball program has announced that the third annual "Gloves for Good" glove drive will take place from Oct. 1- Oct. 31. The drive will be accepting donations of new or slightly worn baseball gloves and monetary donations that will be used to purchase baseball gloves for families in the local communities throughout Maine.
In its inaugural year in 2023, formally known as "Goody's Gloves", raised north of $6,000, which was used to purchase over 100 gloves, which were equally split and gifted to the Orono and Old Town Little League Communities.
Last year, there was nearly $7,500 raised, which turned into 125 gloves that were shared with the communities of Lewiston, Portland, Bangor and Westbrook.
This year's finalists will be named on Maine Baseball social media on Oct. 15 as the program is aiming to name up to six different little league communities.
If you are interested and/or able to support, there will be a donation box set up in the Clubhouse at Mahaney Diamond and a donation box at the Costello Sports Complex at the University of Southern Maine Campus in Gorham. Anyone can donate a new or slightly worn glove, or leave a financial donation to help support "Gloves for Good".Â
