Orono, ME - The Black Bears continued their winning ways as they picked up their sixth-straight victory in a one-sided victory over New Hampshire in the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle, 71-46.
Maine jumped out to an early 9-0 lead as they set the tone of the night early on in a contest that they would never trail in.
The Black Bears continued to pile on the points as they got their lead all the way up to 23 at the break with a score of 37-14.
Quion Burns single-handedly outscored the Wildcats in the first half as he had 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting, including 3-for-3 from behind-the-arc.
Jaden Clayton (6) and
Christopher Mantis (5) rounded out the top-three scorers in the first half.
Kellen Tynes had 3 steals and 2 assists in 11 minutes of action.
The second half was more of the same for the Black Bears as they worked their sizable lead all the way up to 36 points with 8:33 remaining in the contest before UNH got it back down to 25 with a final score of 71-46.
The six-game winning streak continues the longest win streak under
Chris Markwood and is the third time in the last five games that Maine has defeated an America East team by at least 20 points.
Burns ended with 26 points on 9-for-12 shooting, including a season-best 5-for-5 from three-point range.
Tynes finished with 14 points, 4 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocks. He currently sits at 242 career steals at Maine, 1 shy of the program record of 243.
Clayton ended with 8 points and 5 assists.
Maine (14-8, 6-1 AE) takes to the road for the next contest at Vermont on Sunday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM.
