
Baseball Plates 11 in Victory over Husson

Orono, ME - The University of Maine baseball team defeated Husson University on Wednesday evening, 11-4.
First Pitch: 4:05 P.M. (11-4 Maine)
First Inning: Maine jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Connor Goodman singled home Jake Marquez (BB/SB) and later scored on a Dean O'Neill bases-loaded walk.
Third Inning: Husson got their first run on a double to right field.
Fourth Inning: In a bullpen game for Maine, Geoff Mosseau was called on in relief of Noah Lewis. Lewis went 3 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
Maine plated three more runs in the fourth inning, one on an RBI single by Marquez, scoring Myles Sargent (2B) and the other two scoring on a two-run single by Zach Martin, scoring Marquez (1B) and Goodman (BB).
Fifth Inning: Tyler Nielsen began the frame on the mound for Maine. Mosseau had 2 strikeouts in a perfect frame on the mound.
Maine broke the game open in the fifth frame as O'Neill hit a lead-off solo home run to left field, his second of the season.
Later in the frame, Jeremiah Jenkins emptied the bases as he hit a no-doubt grand slam to right field, scoring Marquez (BB), Colin Plante (1B) and Camden MacDonald (1B). The long ball was his ninth of the season.
Sixth Inning: Husson plated two runs on the frame, one on a wild pitch and on an RBI single to center.
Seventh Inning: Ryan Scott began the frame on the mound for Maine. Nielsen allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in his 2 innings of work.
Plante got one run back for Maine as he hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot to right field to lead off the frame.
Eighth Inning: Colton Carson began the frame on the mound for Maine. Scott allowed just 1 walk in his inning of work, striking out 2.
Husson plated one run on a single to left field.
Ninth Inning: Marshall Smaracko was called on for the final frame of the contest. Carson allowed 1 run on 3 hits and 2 strikeouts in his inning of work. Smaracko fired a perfect ninth inning, allowing no runners and striking out 1.
With the 11-4 victory, Maine moved to 4-16 on the season as Mosseau picked up his first win of the season.
Maine (4-16, 1-2 AE) is back in conference play on Friday, March 29 against UAlbany. First pitch is scheduled for 3 P.M.
