BOSTON – Abby Kraemer has been named the 2023 America East Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced on Tuesday by the conference office.
 
Kraemer, a biochemistry major with a 3.86 GPA, was recognized as a NCAA Division I Women's Soccer First Team Scholar All-American earlier this year. Additionally, she was named to the NCAA Division I 2023 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team as well as the America East All-Academic Team.
 
On the field, Kraemer produced one of the best single seasons in program history and helped the program to its first-ever America East Championship and NCAA Tournament berth.
 
The Waterloo, Ontario native became the first-ever All-American in program history in December, earning Second Team honors. She also earned America East Striker of the Year honors and received America East All-Conference First Team accolades after leading the league in points (30), points per game (1.76), goals (13), goals per game (0.72), game-winning goals (6), shots (68) and shots per game (3.78) and ranked in the top 15 in the nation in those same categories throughout the season. Her 13 goals marked the most for an America East player in a single season since 2018 and her six game-winning goals on the year are tied for the most by an America East player since 2019.
 
This is the second consecutive season that a University of Maine student-athlete has been named the America East Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and third time overall (2022 - Halle Rogers; 2014 – Lisa Bijman).
 
Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport, then voted upon by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement committee. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a projected starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.

Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced in July.
