#10 Providence Sneaks Past #7 Maine in Overtime

The Friars took a 4-3 win for the series split.

ORONO, Maine – The #7 University of Maine fell to #10/13 Providence College, 4-3, in overtime on Saturday night at Alfond Arena.
 
The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead with 12 seconds to play in the first period off of Josh Nadeau's 15th goal of the season. The Friars equalized in the second but Maine once again took a one-goal lead into the break thanks to a Ben Poisson power-play goal.
 
Providence would go on to respond to Maine goals two more times, tying things up midway through the third and then answering Brandon Chabrier's power-play tally to force overtime.

Guillaume Richard scored a power-play goal 23 seconds into overtime for the 4-3 win.

  • Providence had the 32-25 lead in shots on goal.
  • Maine was 3-for-7 on the power play while Providence was 2-for-9.
  • Albin Boija made 28 saves for Maine in moving to 5-2-1 overall.

  • Josh Nadeau scored his eighth power-play goal of the season for the most by a Black Bear since Ben Hutton had nine during the 2013-14 season.
  • Josh Nadeau now has 15 goals on the year ... he is the first Maine freshman to reach 15 goals in a season since Teddy Purcell in 2006-07.
  • With one goal and one assist, Josh Nadeau registered his 14th multi-point game of the season … with three assists, Bradly Nadeau picked up his ninth multi-point game of the year and third multi-assist game.
  • Ben Poisson recorded one goal and one assist for his second multi-point game of the year.
  • Josh Nadeau (15-22-37) and Bradly Nadeau (14-22-36) give Maine two freshmen with at least 35 points for the first time since five first-years did it during the 1992-93 season.
  • This was Maine's first home loss of the season.
